Double bellcrank shut-off system developed for American Fast Combat

Design by Bill Maywald

Here are some photos of a shut off system developed for American Fast Combat (.36 displacement)
It uses a "double bellcrank" system to translate line tension into a pushrod action forward to the shutoff which is part of the upper motor mount.
We use external controls in this event a lot, so everything can just be bolted onto the outside of the plane.
By using a threaded clevis in the pushrod, it can rotate. This allows for a nice "launch latch" feature to be built into the pinch off area.

Another modeler here developed an internal version of the system. It works the same way but did not have a "launch latch" feature and had to be held against line tension before/during launch.
